Driving Directions

Pinegri-la is west of Castella, which is about 270 miles north of San Francisco

From San Francisco Bay Area (about 4.5 hours)

1. Take I-5 North to the Castella exit.  Castella is about 40-50 miles north of Redding, 20 miles north of Shasta Lake, 15 south of Mt. Shasta.
2. Take the exit and turn left onto Castle Creek Road.  Reset trip-o-meter and follow the road 11.5 miles.  The mile markers nailed to trees are wrong - ignore them and follow your odometer. 
   
   The road is mostly paved, but watch for rocks and branches.  The last mile is dirt.  The drive will take 20-30 minutes.
3. You'll start seeing "keep out" signs - the camp is unmarked, so look on your right for a white post gate.  This is the entrance - follow the dirt road about 100 yards to the cabins.  For those arriving late, we'll put something visible at night at the entrance, such as a car.

Should you get completely lost, the office number for the cabins is (530) 235-2222 and you can speak to John, Beth, or ask for us.  Note that your cell phone probably won't work on the mountain.

From Redding Airport (about 1.5 hours)

1. Head west from the airport to I-5.  Take I-5 North to the Castella exit.  Castella is about 40-50 miles north of Redding, CA, 20 miles north of Shasta Lake, 15 south of Mt. Shasta.
